Climbers, trailing plants and a little patience: how to cover a bare wall in flowers.

Start with the light

Every good plant corner begins with the window. Notice where the sun falls in the morning and in the afternoon before you choose what goes where.

Group, then repeat

Plants look happier together, and they are: a group keeps the air around it a little more humid. Repeat one pot colour or one leaf shape to tie the group together.

  • Put the tallest plant at the back.
  • Mix a trailing plant with an upright one.
  • Leave space for new leaves.

Water with a routine

A weekly round with the watering can is easier to keep than a plant-by-plant guess. Feel the soil first: most plants like it to dry a little between drinks.

A plant that is looked at every week is a plant that thrives.
